The City of Jerome offers utility services including water, sewer, and garbage collection.  To activate service you must apply in person and provide a valid picture ID.  A cash deposit is required prior to service activation.  After 6 months of good payment history, the deposit is credited to the account balance.  Deposits for residential customers are as follows:

                        Water -            $20.00
                        Sewer -            $40.00
                        Sanitation -      $10.00

(Note:  The customer must be available to meet the city service technician at the location where service will be activated.  In the event that a line break or leak is detected when service is activated, this policy protects the customer against property damage).

Residential Rate Information

(Commercial customers may contact the Jerome Utility Supervisor for more information regarding any of the services referenced below).

Water

The rate for water consumption is $0.90 per 100 cubic feet.

In addition, there is a water base rate.  The rate is dependent upon the service location and the meter size.  Most residential customers will be charged a base rate of $6.80 for a ¾ inch meter.  The funds received for base rates are placed into reserve accounts for capital improvement, payment of debt service and a small contingency for operations.  Information regarding base rates can be found on the reverse side of the monthly statement.  Contact the Jerome Utility Supervisor for a complete schedule of base rates.

Sewer

The fee for wastewater treatment is based upon water consumption.  For residential customers the fee is $2.46 per 100 cubic feet.

During the winter months an average sewer charge is established.  This average is used to discount the sewer during the summer months to allow for outside watering.

Sanitation

The City of Jerome contracts garbage collection through Parks & Sons, Inc. (PSI).  PSI uses an automated system, which requires the use of a specific container.  The fee is $6.15 per month.  Additional containers are available at $1.24 each.

If you experience problems or have questions (other than billing) regarding your garbage collection, please contact PSI directly at 733-4441.

Payment Information

Statements are generally mailed on the last working day of the month.  Payments are normally due on the 15th day of the month.

The City offers a drive up window located on the north side of the building during business hours for your payment convenience.  For after hour payments, a drop box is located below the drive-thru window.  In the event of non-payment, your water services will be terminated.  The cost of reconnection is $20.00 during business hours (324-8189, extension 2) or $50.00 after hours (324-1911).

WATER DISTRIBUTION SYSTEM

The first water mains for the city were installed sometime around 1918 and there is approximately 25 to 30 miles of water mainline within the city’s distribution system. Piping materials vary from steel, galvanized steel, wrapped steel, asbestos cement, cast iron, ductile iron and PVC. There are 13 pressure reducing valves which help to maintain

the pressure on the east side of town. At present there are 2,990 water service meters and approximately 350 fire hydrants.

Water line sizes vary from 3/4 inch to 14 inch lines and water meters vary from 3/4 inch to 6 inch with the majority being 3/4 inch.

The Jerome water system includes 3 storage tanks. One located at the Peters Well east of town, one at A street well and the other located on 10th street at the 10th street well. The 10th street tank has a capacity of 300,000 gallons. The Peters well has a capacity of 1 million gallons. And the A street well has a capacity of 1 million gallons.

WELLS

The City of Jerome has 4 wells , 1 at the A street location with a pumping capacity of 1100 gpm, 2 at the 10th street location #1 has a pumping capacity of 1500 gpm #2 has a pumping capacity of 1400 gpm, and 1 at the Peters well east of town with a pumping capacity of 1700 gpm.

The City has 5 booster pumps which help maintain the water pressure, 1 at the Peters well, 2 at the 10th street well site and 2 at the A street well.

The following is the total gallons per month of water used in 1999.

January 32,925,000

February 32,592,000

March 37,319,000

April 52,074,000

May 77,202,000

June 96,532,000

July 131,670,000

August 126,540,000

September 92,811,000

October 61,554,000

November 49,811,000

December 32,464,000

All wells and pumps in the system are checked and readings recorded daily. They are also maintained on a routine schedule. All meters are read and recorded each month. Service calls and repairs are taken care of as soon as possible. As you can see, it takes a lot of knowledge and planning to service and repair the water system.

This system is tenderly operated, serviced and repaired by your Public Works Department.
