General Statement of Duties

Performs a variety of semi-skilled and skilled technical and maintenance work in the operation, maintenance and repair of the irrigation, water, and possible wastewater systems.  Must reside within a 15 minute response time to any point within the service area   Performs variety of semi-skilled/skilled tasks related to the everyday operations and some emergency operations within the WaterWorks Department.  Must be able to work day or night, anytime.

 

Supervision Received

Works under the general supervision of:

·         Water Works Director and /or

·         Wastewater Operations Supervisor or

·         Water Operations Supervisor

Essential Duties and Responsibilities

·         Works on varied shifts including a rotating Duty Call Back status
Position requires the employee to execute variety of duties in a professional and customer service oriented manner; duties include but are not limited to; The irrigation system as to Irrigation line/box installation/repair. 

·         Responding to customer concerns on irrigation. 

·         Solving problems quickly and water main installation/repair

·         Water service installation/repair and Sewer service installation/repair.

·          Changing out water meters.

·         Inspect/ service equipment before operation.  During the course of employment the employee will be trained be trained as a water operator and may have an opportunity to be trained as an equipment operator.

·         Under supervision collects samples of wastewater at various stages of the treatment process for laboratory determination of the effectiveness of the treatment process.

·         Cleans facilities and operation equipment as required by daily visual inspection.

·         Maintains buildings, grounds, piping, roadways, and machinery.

·         Operates backhoe, dump truck, mowers, Jet, vacuum and camera truck and other equipment.

·         Keeps a log of shift operations and performs other duties as assigned.

·         Repairs the grounds irrigation system.

·         All other duties as assigned

     

Knowledge, Skills and Abilities

·         Skilled in the operation of equipment and the use of tools.

·         Ability to perform physical labor.

·         Ability to work with others and the public

·         Ability to follow verbal and written instructions.

·         Desirable to have basic mathematical skills including basic geometry.

·         Knowledge of job safety

·         Able to operate and have skill with backhoe, dump truck and other applicable equipment desired

 

Acceptable Education and Experience

·         High school diploma or GED

 

Special Qualifications

·         Must be able to pass the Operator 1 Ken Kerri correspondence course within 6 months of hire, and next test cycle test for and acquire Operator In Training License.

·         Must be able to acquire a Water or Wastewater License within 15 months of hire.

·         Must possess at least a valid Idaho Commercial driver’s license Class B or be able to obtain within 18 months of hire.

 

Essential Physical Abilities

·         The employee must frequently lift and/or move up to 10 pounds and occasionally lift and/or move up to 50 pounds. Specific vision abilities required by this job include close vision, distance vision, color vision, depth perception, and the ability to adjust focus.

·         While performing the duties of this job, the employee is regularly required to use hands to finger, han   dle, feel or operate objects, tools, or controls and reach with hands and arms.  The employee frequently is required to stand. The employee is occasionally required to walk; talk or hear; sit; climb or balance; stoop, kneel, crouch, or crawl; and smell.

·         While performing the duties of this job, the employee occasionally works in outside weather conditions. The employee occasionally works near moving mechanical parts and is occasionally exposed to wet and/or humid conditions. The employee occasionally works in high, precarious places and is occasionally exposed to fumes or airborne particles, risk of electrical shock, and vibration. The employee is frequently exposed to toxic or caustic chemicals.
